The Police and Crime Commissioner for Sussex commissions local victim support services and runs the Safe Space Sussex website.

Operation Signature is the force campaign to identify and support vulnerable victims of fraud.

Sussex Police are committed to helping communities stay safe from fraud. They offer free, tailored fraud prevention talks for community groups, organisations, and individuals who may be at increased risk of scams and fraudulent activity.

Delivered by specialist volunteer fraud prevention teams, these sessions provide practical advice on:

• Recognising common fraud and scam tactics
• Staying safe online
• Protecting personal and financial information
• Knowing what to do if you suspect fraud

Sessions are delivered in person and can include presentations, information stands, and opportunities for attendees to ask questions and discuss concerns.  By working directly with our communities, they aim to raise awareness, build confidence, and help people protect themselves and those around them from fraud.

trueCall call blockers

Telephone remains one of the most prolific contact methods for fraudsters targeting the elderly and vulnerable across Sussex.  trueCall call blocking devices can be an effective measure to limit and block unwanted and scam calls from reaching the intended receiver. 

Recipients of the Force-supplied devices are selected on their level of vulnerability. A police and partner agency process has been developed for nomination purposes. To date 520 devices have been provided to the most vulnerable residents of Sussex free of charge.

Monthly fraud Newsletter

Sussex and Surrey Police produce a monthly fraud newsletter that is sent out electronically to provide residents with information and practical tips on staying safe from scams and fraud.  Providing topical information, current trends and emerging frauds affecting the local community with real-life examples and signposting to upcoming events and campaigns in the local area.

The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) is the regional policing unit which has the responsibility to protect communities in the south east of England from serious organised crime. The unit is made up of both police officers and staff from across the region.

Victim Support are a national organisation provided support to victims of crime. In Sussex, they have two specialist fraud caseworkers who offer tailored support to vulnerable victims of fraud throughout Sussex. They work closely with Sussex Police, their Operation Signature campaign and other partners. One of their key aims is to disrupt the actions of fraudsters and reduce the risk of re-victimisation. The fraud service also includes access to an online peer support group for those who have been the victims of romance fraud.

West Sussex County Council have an integral Community Safety and Wellbeing Team, raising online safety awareness amongst communities and professionals across West Sussex.

Neighbourhood Watch aims to prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and improve safety.
